The digital filmmaking boom really began with the success of The Blair Witch Project, which grossed over $169 million theatrically. But Blair Witch is the exception, not the rule. Most films shot on Min-DV or “pro-consumer” HD cameras still look like they were shot on video, not film. And the market has become oversaturated with films of this sort, which generally lack production value because they are shot in 10 days or less, with amateur actors. Our goal is to exceed the standards of other films on several levels. UNTITLED SLASHER FILM is a low budget horror film, but it is not a micro-budget, or “no budget,” horror film. At the end of the day, it will look and feel like a “real” movie because it will be one.
What is a Red One digital camera? It is the state of the art digital camera which has higher resolution than 35mm film. Steven Soderbergh and Peter Jackson recently tested these cameras, raved about them, and intend to shoot only with them for the foreseeable future. This is the professional standard to which all educated filmmakers now aspire. The rule of thumb used to be that filmmakers shooting for less than $3 million should shoot digitally; now that rule of thumb is that filmmakers shooting for less than $5 million should go this route, because of a 50% savings in budget. UNTITLED SLASHER FILM will not be shot on a format that is merely “Acceptable”—it will be shot on the state of the art, preferred format, which will make this film eminently more marketable.
Scream Queen Sally Shrieker is murdered at the premiere of her latest low budget horror film, "Nymphoid Maniac," and the Pitt Insurance Agency hires Private Investigator Joe Leland to prove that "Uncle Lew" Gordon, the legendary head of Torrent Entertainment, has inflated the budget of an "Untitled Slasher Film" that Sally had yet to complete so he can cash in on her death. Someone is killing the scream queens but who?
